Vietnam Cold Chain - What’s next after huge investment in the South?

31 July 2024 - 02:00 PM Alternate Text

Cold chain marktet is one of the most promising logistics segments in Vietnam, driven by robust import-export activities, F&B franchised stores, and modern retail trade. The market was estimated at $211.2 million in 2023, with cold storage and transportation making up 68% and 32%, respectively.  Despite its robust growth in recent years, the sector faced a slowdown in 2023 due to weaker domestic demand and slower import-export activities.

With the active participation of both local and foreign investors, the sector is witnessing intense competition among cold chain service providers. Notably, this in-flux of significant foreign investments during 2024 - 2025 may lead to short-term oversupply, particularly in emerging areas.

Despite this, the outlook for Vietnam’s cold chain logistics remains positive, with cold storage capacity projected to reach 1.7 million pallets by 2028. The market is anticipated to experience long-term demand growth, fueled by increasing needs from retail chains and other emerging end-use segments including fruit and vegetables export, dairy products and pharmaceuticals.

These prospects create opportunities for both local and foreign investors.  By leveraging the expertise of local research and consulting firms, investors can navigate the Vietnamese business environment to capitalize on the market.
